Working With the Landscape, Not Against It

This urban courtyard needed to give young children room to climb, dig and explore in a space surrounded by city buildings. Our team layered natural materials, including redwood stumps, a carved climbing log, sand and plantings, to create distinct play zones connected by a curving path.
