This front yard in West Oakland was a typical front yard lawn, with an outdated, cracking retaining wall. Over the course of a year, we incorporating permaculture techniques to organically remove the lawn and cultivate fertile soil. The native planting design creates screening from the street with ceanothus, grasses, perennials, and manzanita trees. In the Spring, the vibrant blue flowers of the Ceanothus can be seen from a block away.
